In 2023, the City of Airway Heights identified that South Hayford Road needs repairs due to significant surface deterioration. To address this issue and extend the life of the roadway, the City applied for and received a preservation grant through the Spokane Regional Transportation Council (SRTC). SRTC has allocated $850,400 towards the design and construction of the project. The City plans to begin construction this summer.
The project will span approximately 5,300 feet along Hayford Road, from McFarlane Road to US-2. The work will involve grinding off 2 inches of the existing asphalt and replacing it with new asphalt. Additionally, the project will include the construction of an extruded curb on the south side of the intersection, which will prevent southbound left turns from Hayford to Maverick. This measure is intended to reduce traffic congestion and improve safety at the US-2 / Hayford Road intersection.
Temporary roadway closures and detour routes will be required due to this work. Business access will remain open through the entirety of the project.
June & July 2025 with an approximate 5-week construction window.
