Water

The Water Division is responsible for building, operating and maintaining the City’s potable water production, distribution and storage facilities.

Production facilities include four active wells and the Spokane Inter-tie that can collectively produce 3250 gallons per minute or 4.6 million gallons per day. The City consumes on average over 350 million gallons per year.

The City’s standard pipe is PVC C-900 for water mains and HDPE for laterals and is required for all new or rehabilitated construction. The water system network includes approximately 20 miles of distribution mains ranging from 8 inches to 16 inches in diameter. Call (509) 244-5429 for information on tapping into the City’s water system or obtaining permits for and inspections of a water tap or irrigation tap.

Information on Water Conservation can be found here.

Sewer

The Sewer Division is responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the sewage collection system. The City directs its waste stream to the City’s Water Reclamation Plant where the raw sewage is processed into high quality reclaimed water that can be reused for other purposes.

Call (509) 244-5429 for information on tapping into the City’s sewer system or obtaining permits for and inspections of a sewer tap.

Streets

The Street division is responsible for maintaining more than 23 miles of residential and arterial streets throughout the City. The primary maintenance focus is on sweeping, snow and ice removal, roadway repair, traffic signage and storm drainage and dust control on the City’s gravel streets. In addition to routine maintenance, the Street division is responsible for short and long range transportation planning and financing major improvements.

Information on the Airway Heights Six Year Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) for 2015-2020 can be found here.

Snow Removal

Snow removal is a vital part of the Public Works Department. Currently we have three snow plows, one grader and one 96 inch Snow Master. We are normally able to plow the entire city within one working day after a snowfall. Total snowfalls of less than 3-4 inches are not typically plowed. Click here for the snow plow route map for the City of Airway Heights.

Solid Waste/Recycling

The City requires mandatory garbage service and contracts with Waste Management for this service. Waste Management can be contacted at (877) 466-4668 or at http://wmnorthwest.com/airwayheights.

Water Reclamation Plant

The City of Airway Heights’ Water Reclamation Plant is a state of the art facility. The Plant utilizes the most modern technology in water treatment and is configured in such a way as to not contribute any pollution or other detrimental effects to water quality in Washington State. The water that the Plant treats and discharges is of such high quality that it is able to be repurposed for irrigation of public facilities and groundwater recharge. Reclaimed water is the wave of the future in the Wastewater Treatment industry, and Airway Heights is on the cutting edge of that wave.

Food Scraps

Spokane Regional Solid Waste System (SRSWS) now has a Food Scraps program that allows residents the ability to recycle food scraps to those who have curbside collection programs of Clean Green. Residents can also self-haul food scraps directly to three SRSWS sites. Airway Heights will not be accepting food scraps. However, there is a community drop-off program for clean green yard debris. If you wish to participate in the Food Scraps program you can self-haul your scraps to the most convenient SRSWS site.

For additional information please contact Spokane Regional Solid Waste System at (509) 625-6580 or visit their website.
