Applying for a Job with the City of Airway Heights

Application Process  Applications may be picked up at and returned to the Airway Heights City Hall, 1208 S. Lundstrom Street, Airway Heights, WA  99001.  Applicants who submit resumes also must submit the applicable City of Airway Heights employment application form and any additional materials as stated on the specific job announcement. Please check to make sure that the position has not closed and identify the title of the position for which you wish to apply.  Allow sufficient time for mailing as applications must be postmarked as received by 5:00 p.m. on the closing date.

Qualifications  Before you submit your application, be sure that you meet the minimum qualifications and any specific position requirements stated in the job announcement, and that you list all experience that shows you to be qualified.  Stated minimums refer to full-time work; part-time work will be converted to full-time equivalents. Current Job Openings:

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND ENFORCEMENT OFFICER

The City of Airway Heights is refining it’s code enforcement process from  report driven enforcement to a proactive community engagement model, and is creating a position to assist the Development Services Department in developing this program and act as the lead for the City’s Community Engagement & Enforcement Program. The focus is to build relationships with community members, educate the public regarding the importance of code enforcement, and solicit assistance from the community to address issues. The preferred candidate must have strong conflict resolution, organizational, and community engagement skills, as well as code enforcement experience. The preferred candidate will have the ability to take a compassionate, solution oriented approach when initiating enforcement actions, see situations from a variety of viewpoints while developing a positive rapport with community members. From these interactions, the goal is to develop volunteer teams of community members to implement community improvement programs, and facilitate the growth and expansion of the community engagement and enforcement program.

The position requires graduation from high school or GED equivalent, supplemented by two years post­secondary training or an Associate’s degree in urban planning, law enforcement, public administration or a related field; two years of experience related to developing community engagement programs and two years of experience in inspection, law enforcement, building inspection, land use, public administration or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid Washington State Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and a driving record free from serious or frequent traffic violations, and First Aid/CPR card upon hire. Salary Range is $4,379-$5,229. PARKS MAINTENANCE OVER-HIRE 

This position has responsibility for mowing, cleaning parks, maintaining ball fields, fertilizing and using chemicals to control pests and weeds, maintaining sprinkler systems, cleaning and stocking rest rooms, installing landscaping and maintaining park related equipment.  This position interacts with citizens, community organizations, and other city staff.  This position requires strong communication skills, the ability to provide and maintain a safe work environment, and the ability to maintain records.
