Balanced 2027 Budget Proposal Protects Core City Services
City Council to review proposal November 2nd and 16th
Airway Heights, WA – The City of Airway Heights has released its proposed 2027 budget, a balanced plan that keeps core City services in place while responsibly managing rising costs. City staff will present the proposal to the City Council on Nov. 2, and the Council is scheduled to act on it on Nov. 16.
Residents can expect the services they rely on to continue, including police and fire protection, municipal court, street maintenance, parks and recreation, and water and sewer service.
Like many local governments, Airway Heights is facing higher costs for personnel, materials, equipment and contracted services. The proposed budget meets these pressures by finding more cost-effective ways to deliver services—both within City operations and through partnerships with outside agencies and providers—so the City can maintain service levels while keeping costs to residents as low as possible.
The proposal limits the property tax increase to the 1% annual adjustment allowed under state law. Citywide, this adjustment is expected to total for all combined property for approximately or $18,000.
The proposed budget does not include any new utility rate increases. Water rates will continue to follow the 2025–2029 rate path the City Council adopted in 2024, which sets each year’s adjustment in advance; the scheduled adjustment for 2027 is 9%.
The budget also continues to meet all of the City’s bond obligations and other commitments to the community, supporting the City’s long-term financial stability.
“Our priority with this budget is simple: keep delivering the services residents count on, and do it responsibly,” said Interim City Manager Heather Trautman. “We’ve looked closely at how we work, both within the City and with our partners, to find savings while honoring the commitments we’ve made to this community.”
The public can provide input on the proposed budget during the public comment period at the November 16th City Council meeting or by submitting written comments to the City Clerk by 4 p.m. on Monday, November 16th. Written comments may be emailed to [email protected] or submitted to 13120 W 13th Avenue, Airway, WA 99001, and must be received by this deadline. The proposed budget and supporting materials will be included in the meeting agenda packet, which will be available on the City’s website once published.
