15 Years as a Tree City USA

Post Date:05/24/2018

On April 20th the City of Airway Heights celebrated its 15th year as a Tree City USA with the annual planting of trees in our parks and open spaces. Kids from the Drop In After School Program celebrated the day by learning about the value of trees and the important role they play in making our community great. Another annual tradition of the Parks & Recreation department is the Arbor Day Poster contest at Sunset Elementary. This year, 10 classrooms and over 200 students participated in the contest designing, drawing, and painting posters that expressed their favorite thing about trees. The 2018 Arbor Day Poster Contest Champion, selected by the Park Advisory Board, is 5th grader Nihal Phagura. Nihal’s poster will be on display at the Community Center all summer long for community members to view his hard work and creativity.
